Happy Mothers' Day!I went over to my folks' place for Sunday brunch. Cars and I had planned to grocery shop and bring food and cook brunch, but my mom and my grandma and my auntie all came to get me and told me just to whip something up from whatever was in the kitchen already. Carso was already there, as he is building their new back porch and started "work" (looking up used trucks online with my dad) early. We cooked some waffles, fruit salad, and stuffed roma tomatoes (with egg, spicy Italian sausage and blue cheese inside mm) and the usual little plate of cheese, olives and crackers.

The whipping cream was Carson's job at first, but after solemnly whipping it with a whisk for twenty minutes he gave up and used Grandma's beaters, and after twenty minutes of that we switched and he took over the waffle iron and I had a go at the whipping cream. After my pathetic attempts, dad transferred the stupid whipping cream to the food processor. Finally we realized we had got a delinquent batch of cream and amidst much giggling put it in the cream jug and decided to rename it "Crème a la mère" and see if anyone noticed it was just thick cream. It turned out pretty nice though, it was tasty poured over the waffles and fruit.

Grandma Helen got an atlas for Mothers' Day and the ladies spent most of the morning poring over it in the living room while we cooked. We could hear them exclaiming over the atlas. Grandma's old one was published before Carson was born, and the world has changed a lot since then! Grandma uses it a lot, especially when she is reading.Happy Mothers' Day to all the mommies!
