The Front Steps

Recently, we have been worrying about the state of our front stairs. Most of the wood was starting to go, and the top plank had an increasingly large small hole in it. One entire 2x4 was rotting away, and we thought it would be a matter of time before someone hurt themselves. Not being made of money, we were groaning at the thought of the cost of the lumber, and the time Carson would have to take off work.
Carson finally decided to replace a few key pieces and then figure out how to repair the whole thing. So last Saturday he started in on the stairs. After removing the rotten planks, he noticed something weird, a red painted cement pad under the foot of the stairs. Then he noticed . . . . . . . .. . . a whole 'nother set of stairs! The original cement stairs were under the crappy rotting wooden stairs!
Yay! Carson says the cement ones are not up to code, but they are the original stairs so we don't have to do much.
We only had to rip the woodeny stairs off and then we had a lovely, not-rotting, essentially free, stable, solid, cementy set of stairs! Ross helped Carson smash the crappy wood and take it apart. They loaded it into the truck and Carson took it to the dump. Yay "new" stairs!
